As a school BCBA, you will support teachers, staff, and school administrators by working with students with behavior challenges in the classroom. In this role, you will conduct functional behavior assessments, develop behavioral intervention plans, and offer strategies to teachers and behavior techs to meet students’ individual behavioral needs.
You may also be asked to offer teacher and staff training and/or workshops on behavior management techniques for students with difficulty functioning in the classroom. Your professional insight will play an important role in preserving a positive learning environment for behaviorally challenged students, as well as their classmates and teachers. Your ultimate goal will be to help students learn to manage their behavior to optimize their own learning experience.
You may also be required to provide direct instruction to students with special behavioral needs. These students will vary in age from grades K-12, to be determined by the school district. Their behavior challenges may range from mild to moderate to severe. The level of intervention and support they require will be determined on a case-by-case basis, according to the parameters set forth in their individual education plans (IEP) or 504 plans.
